Shadowboxing - Replicate A Fight

Shadowboxing - Replicate A Fight

Put on a DVD of your favourite fighter, study how they fight and replicate it with your shadowboxing..

The greatest way to improve is to learn from the best. People can only dream of becoming as good as Manny Pacquiao, Bruce Lee, Mohammed Ali and Anderson Silva. These guys are among some of the best fighters to ever fight. But what makes them so good and how can we learn from them?

In this article I will show you a refreshing drill that is not only educational but very fun! It involves studying your favorite fighters and replicating them:

Here's what you have to do:

  1. Choose the best fight you have ever seen with a fighter who has a similar style to you.
  2. Download it or buy it on DVD.
  3. Put it in your DVD player or PC and press play.
  4. Choose the winning boxer.
  5. Copy EVERYTHING that they do - their footwork, punches, weaving, interception, slipping, etc.
  6. Drill this same fight until your bored to death of it, and then do it once more.

Write down what you have learnt and try to pull it off in your next sparring session

Once you are happy that you have mastered the DVD then it's time to try another one. You don't always have to choose the winner. There may be a fight that is very close and goes to the decision, with a very good defensive fighter than loses - there is nothing wrong with mimicking their defensive techniques.

If there is something you want to work on in specific then choose a fight where you know there is a lot of the specific techniques used.
