Write for FIGHTSCOPE My opinion on Bruce Lee's famous quote..
I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.
The above quote is one of Bruce Lee's most famous and discussed quotes, but what did he mean by it?
Well, Bruce Lee was a brilliant philosopher with many quotes that had deep and thoughtful feelings.
The above quote doesn't refer to a guy that has simply trained 1 kick 10,000 times but a guy that has dedicated not hours, days or weeks but years to training one simple tool; such as a kick, punch.
A kick is not just a kick. To throw your leg out and hit something hard, it requires your entire body to work as one. The more fluid like you can train this action, the harder you will kick.
Therefore, a martial artist that has dedicated years of training a few effective tools, and trained them to work in almost any situation is considered far more dangerous than a martial artist that has dedicated years of training to hundreds of tools - not because all of them are useless but because there just isn't enough time in one life time to perfect each one.
