Kickboxing for fitness & core strength

Kickboxing for fitness & core strength

Kickboxing helps improve your fitness and your core strength. These two variables will make you faster, stronger and healthier..

For the mind

Have you ever noticed that the most positive, happy and energetic people in your life are fit and active? This is because exercise makes us happy, it makes us feel strong and above all confident!

I'm pretty sure you will have noticed yourself feeling happier and much more positive after a good work out.

If you want to burn off stress, become strong and exceptionally fit then kickboxing is the martial art for you. Can you imagine yourself learning to fight whilst feeling the benefits of becoming fitter, stronger and looking better?

Acquiring a new skill gives us a great sense of achievement, combine that with feeling confident in the street or in a bar, feeling and looking fit and you instantly feel better about yourself.

For fitness

One thing that separates kickboxing from many other traditional martial arts is that most of the training drills are continuous and require many body movements and combinations, resulting in less thinking power and more intense training sessions.

I try to make my training sessions as energetic and fun as possible, however when training under others I have experienced some of the most boring moments of my life...

I recall one training session, we were training a rear hook kick and I was stood for about an hour with two other guys that were constantly stopping to talk about the "perfect way to perform this technique" and how or why this would/wouldn't work. The reason they couldn't apply the technique is because they hadn't practiced it! They tried the hook kick a minimum of 5/6 times before they stopped to 'talk'. This drove me crazy as nobody would be able to apply any technique properly even after 500/600 practices. Training requires time, effort and above all repetitions and this is why kickboxing is so good for fitness - the majority of the training is continuous which is great!

For Balance & Core Strength

Because of the various kicks, punches and footwork involved, Kickboxing gives your core an incredible workout! With each strike working the abdomen, torso, oblique's and hips it's no wonder why kickboxers have abs of steel! Learning to control your punches and kicks with speed, timing and distance as well as using your footwork to keep your opponent at the fighting measure at the same time defend demands the body to develop an outstanding sense of balance. This is why many martial artists choose to add kickboxing to compliment their training

Aerobic Kickboxing

Before ending this article I would like to quickly touch on aerobic kickboxing classes. These are great for exercise, stamina, core strength and fat loss so if any of these are your goal then I recommend you definitely go have some fun and get fitter and healthier! Just be aware that these are no substitute for self defense as there is a lot more to a fight than fitness. A fight involves strength, conditioning, rhythm, timing, control of distance and so much more,

Have fun!
