Kickboxing is one of the modern martial arts which was developed in the 1970's. In 1974 kickboxing became an established competitive sport in which its main objective was to allow traditional martial artists from tai kwon do, karate, and kung fu to compete against each other under the same umbrella of rules and regulations.
Kickboxing is comprised primarily of boxing punches, elbows and kicks. Kickboxing has become a very popular sport in which competitions are help all around the world each year. However it is not only competitors that train, many Kickboxers use the martial art as a form of fitness and self defense
Kick boxers tend to fight using a wide fighting measure than other close up martial arts like boxing because their kicks have a much larger range. As a competitive sport, kickboxing demands a high level of fitness, stamina, strength and endurance.
Although kickboxing is a sport, it's arrays of strikes and techniques make it a sold form of self defense. The skills and abilities that are learnt when training kickboxing gives students the confidence to control distance, intercept and evade opponents strikes on the streets as well as in the ring.
